Job Change: who are wise?

The economy is booming and the Sensex has crossed 20K mark. The growth is across the wide spectrum of sectors. The phenomenal growth has lead to shortage of qualified (and quality!) professionals. It is to be seen, whether this will continue for long or it is for a short stay, but who cares! For the time being the opportunities are vast for the professionals with the opportunity of different exposure, new learnings and also scope of satisfying the increased appetite of their pockets. There was never a better time than this.

One year with the same organisation is considered too long a period! I am one of those confused guys (those staying with the same organisation for long periods must be confused or boring!!) to have stayed with my first organisation for now whopping four years. I would continue with my example although I know some other dumbo like me. If I had gone jumping jobs, like many of my friends have done, I would have been earning atleast double, or God knows tripple, of what I earn now. I would have been to whole of India or possibly to offshore places.

I am really confused, thinking whether I am such a dumbo not to get enough opportunities or I have chosen to give more time to my organisation? I think it is the later one। Why? Are you a crap? This is the FAQ raised to me। No is my answer. Confused? Let me explain (Hai la....., Munnabhai MBBS). What a person requires with his career is basically a trade-off between two aspects, one is the money factor - which includes the current pay as well as other accruing benefits. The second factor is the job satisfaction and in-turn peace of life. I have chosen to give some more time to my organisation which is providing me the balanced portfolio.

I know what you are thinking right now.... this guy is surely an idealistic, impractical person, isn't that what you are thinking? Let me tell you that I am not favouring that one has to build his entire career at one place... that will corrupt his/her mind and in most probability would make it stagnant. On the other hand, I feel that changing jobs in short periods snatches the objective and focus of one's career.

In the end, it's a trade-off.
